Break the Summer Boredom Blues
So you counted down the days until summer, but the thing is...now that it's here you're feeling kind of bored. If you're looking for ways to mix things up, check out our list of ideas below.
Grow a green thumb!
Have you ever thought about growing a garden? Planting fruits and vegetables can be fun and easy. Check out this online article about starting your own garden. There are even some fun ways to grow a mini garden inside!
Is it hot outside?
- Chill out and hide out at the library. It's a cool place to curl up and escape.
- Grab some friends (or wear dark glasses, be super-secretive and head out alone - you know, just for kicks) to catch a movie.
Bon appétit!
Create a culinary masterpiece in your own kitchen. See what you can come up with just with the ingredients you've got on hand. In the mood for something sweet? Make banana splits or ice cream sundaes, because ice cream is always, ALWAYS, a good idea.
Lights, Camera, Action!
Round up some friends or go solo to make a movie or music video. Or do a photo shoot. Go red carpet style, take artsy nature photos or just see how many faces you and your friends can make for the camera.
Get creative!
Paint pictures, take photographs or write a story, play or song! Then show off your work, cause, yeah, you DID that.
Vacation - virtually!
Pick a place you’d like to travel. Then research it on the internet, in magazines and in books. Write down all the places you want to go, the things you want to do - even the food you want to eat. Keep your list around for when you feel like daydreaming, or save it and make a plan for how you'll go there someday.
Do some good!
Help your community by volunteering at an animal shelter, food pantry, summer camp or other community program. Added bonus – you can also count this as work/volunteer experience on resumes and college applications, especially if you volunteer on a regular basis!
Get to work!
Get a summer job or internship. Work experience looks great on a resume and a college application. Check out our article on the perks of having a summer job.
