Summers County Student Named a 'Dell Scholar'
Morgan Plumley, a senior at Summers County High School, is one of only 250 students nationwide to receive the prestigious "Dell Scholars" award.
The Dell Scholarship is offered through the Michael and Susan Dell Foundation and provides recipients with resources beyond simply paying for college. The scholarship will provide Morgan with more than $20,000 throughout six years of schooling, and the program funds computers, software upgrades, textbook waivers and mentoring and tutoring services.
To be eligible, students must attend a school that has an approved college readiness program, (such as West Virginia GEAR UP), have a minimum grade-point-average of 2.4, demonstrate the need for financial assistance and plan to enter a bachelor’s degree program at an accredited higher education institution following graduation from high school.
Morgan is currently the valedictorian of her class. After graduation, she plans to attend West Virginia University, where she intends to study law. She plays softball for Summers County High School and is active in her church youth group.
“She is a well-deserving student who will use the scholarship money to advance her education and give back to her family and community,” Summers High School Counselor Melissa Kirkham said. “This is a huge accomplishment, and we are so proud of her!”
